Blaster Project Retrospective: 2023

Another year done and another chance to look back at my blaster project.
I started this project way back in 2020 but had wanted to do something like this for even longer. This project is equal parts a meditation and learning more and more about digital art creation. There's also a storytelling element to the whole thing and I really like that.

Thank you to everyone that has looked, liked, commented, and been with me on this awesome journey.

More art on the way... Next Year!

The first one, a proof of concept and just playing around to see if I wanted to go any further with the idea.

Throwing everything at the wall to see what stuck, this was a very experimental period of my blaster project.

Getting there, some more ideas and refinement of the idea at the core but still large in the screen and with the graphic filter on top.

A new background and the end of using a filter over the top, I wanted the details to pop better and the filter was getting in the way of that.

The beginning of the more recent look, a clean background and more crisp details.

A refined version of the cleaner look, a softer shadow and some more detail but lots more to add.

The end of the first batch and I'd take a break between this and the next batch to make new ideas and to have a new process to how I made these.

A test for the second version of the blasters template, brighter highlights amongst other things.

One of the last variety projects where I would focus on making at least two blasters a day but I wanted to start narrowing in more.

The first project where I made one blaster and added to it to make more, a base model that could be made into more. Figured out a lot but there was more to discover still.

I wanted to try making color schemes (i.e. skins and camos) and thus this project was made along with others. The results were the start of a main-stay.

A piece of fan-art of sorts to celebrate a game announcement and to see how fast I could make a blaster from start to finish.

New techniques and new things added, there was a sort of rhythm and flow I'd gotten into. Some things cemented and others put away for now.

The current blaster, there's a lot I've learned and a lot left to do. I'm extremely happy with how this project has turned out and I can't wait to see what else it has in store.
